Composer Daniel Hersog puts a fresh spin on beloved traditional songs and more with his big band album Open Spaces (Folk Songs Reimagined). The album features the 17-piece Daniel Hersog Jazz Orchestra with star soloists guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, multi-reed ace Scott Robinson, saxophonist Noah Preminger and pianist Frank Carlberg.
Out on June 23, 2023 via Cellar Music, the album follows 2020’s Night Devoid of Stars, the initial release by Hersog’s big band. As Selwyn Harris wrote in Jazzwise, that album was “a mature, superbly crafted statement that doesn’t sound anything like a debut.”
