The hypertide is real, so is Kiribati. In our collective somnambulism we’ve managed to create a situation where a low lying atoll in the Pacific will soon be flooded by the polar ice we’ve managed to melt in part by uploading photos to Instagram. A real life desert island paradise submereged by a virtual tide of holiday selfies.

Accordionist and composer Frode Haltli follows up last year’s acclaimed Hubro release, ‘Avant Folk’, with a smaller-scale yet equally inspired album that is built once again on the combination of traditional Nordic folk forms with influences drawn from world music and contemporary composition/improvisation.
BBE Music unearth ‘Palaver’, a long-lost, previously unreleased 1980 album from Ghanaian guitarist and songwriter Ebo Taylor.
If Fela Kuti was the king of Nigerian Afrobeat, then Ebo Taylor, 83 and still playing hard, is the king of Ghana Funky-Highlife. No doubt whatsoever. Much of Ebo’s beautiful 70s and 80s output has been reissued, as more and more Afro music lovers are being converted to his unique pan-West African sound.
Did you ever think about hearing what previously was unheard? I mean not the music which is still in a composer’s head and hasn’t made it to the score yet, that will finally come sooner or later, but I mean the music which had been performed in the past by real masters, heard by composers, critics and listeners, had been raved about over the virtues of the performance which then became legendary and an immortal act living in the memories of those who had been lucky enough to witness it. Perhaps you have been dreaming to travel back in time to see and hear a musician you admire a lot, live? Regardless the genre, It could be Jim Morrison, Robert Johnson or Niccolo Paganini. Or Marcelle Mayer. If that’s Her, then here is a special treat for you.
