Newvelle Records proudly announces the release of Stars, the stunning new album from renowned bassist and composer Martin Wind, featuring legendary pianist Kenny Barron, clarinettist Anat Cohen, and drummer Matt Wilson. Recorded at EastSide Sound in New York City on February 5–6, 2025, Stars captures a rare meeting of kindred spirits—masters of their craft whose collective warmth and deep respect radiate through every note.
Available January 30, 2026, Stars opens the Newvelle Ten Collection, a landmark five-album series celebrating Newvelle’s tenth anniversary. Each release is paired with original artwork from internationally renowned artist Ragnar Kjartansson, underscoring the label’s unique commitment to pairing exceptional music with striking visual art.
For Wind, Stars is the realisation of a long-held dream. “I’d been searching for the right project with Martin for years,” says producer Elan Mehler. “When he suggested Kenny Barron, I was overjoyed. Being in the room with these master musicians who created the language we all love was extraordinary. Kenny hasn’t lost a step, and the atmosphere was filled with warmth and reverence.”
The album’s repertoire reflects that spirit: fresh originals by Wind (“Moody” and “Standing at the Window Waving Goodbye”) sit comfortably alongside timeless gems like Duke Ellington’s “The Feeling of Jazz,” Bud Powell’s “Wail,” and the classic “Stars Fell on Alabama.” The result is a set that balances invention with tradition, rendered by players whose interplay glows with effortless generosity.
The chemistry in the studio was palpable. Longtime friends and collaborators, Wind, Cohen, and Wilson leaned naturally toward Barron, creating a dialogue steeped in mutual admiration. “There was a deep personal respect flowing in every direction,” Mehler notes. “You can hear it in every phrase, every gesture.”
