Very sad news reached us today from our Belgian friend, Mark Hollander, musician, producer and creator of the independent record label, Crammed Discs. The leader of the Belgian avant-rock group Aksak Maboul, which he founded in 1977, along others, with Vincent Kenis.
CRAMMED DISCS:
We lost Véronique Vincent, a truly beloved figure in the music world. She brought life, creativity, and passion to Aksak Maboul and Les Tueurs de la Lune de Miel. Her spirit and her songs will continue to resonate with all who were lucky to know her.
A versatile, passionate and imaginative artist, she started out as the iconic co-lead singer with wild Brussels band The Honeymoon Killers in the ’80s, devoted several years to visual arts, and later became — alongside her life & creative partner Marc Hollander— the driving force behind experimental pop band Aksak Maboul, singing and writing uniquely poetic lyrics for the band’s acclaimed latest two albums.
She spent her last few months doing what she liked best: drawing, painting, and working until recently to complete the lyrics and the vocal recordings for an upcoming album. It would be an understatement to say that we will be missing her terribly. Véronique Vincent left the stage on October 5, after a battle with cancer. She was 68.
