Woodwindist/Composer Josh Sinton Embarks on 10-City Tour
December 1-18 in New York, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Missouri, Illinois
The tour caps a productive and busy 2022 that saw the release of three critically acclaimed Sinton albums
Woodwindist, composer and creative musician Josh Sinton caps off an extraordinarily productive and busy year with a 10-city tour, Thursday, December 1 – Sunday, December 18. Performances include stops in New York City; Baltimore, MD; Cary, NC; Richmond, VA; Knoxville, TN; Athens, GA; Pittsburgh, PA; Bloomington, IN; Kansas City, MO; and Chicago, IL.
Sinton’s three highly acclaimed 2022 albums on Form Is Possibility Recordings (FiP) include Adumbrations (June 3) which features Sinton with longtime friends, pianist Jed Wilson and drummer Tony Falco. Though they’ve known each other since their student days at New England Conservatory, their album of free, lyrical, inspired music marks their trio debut. Mike Shanley of JazzTimes wrote, “Throughout six untitled tracks, [Sinton, Wilson and Falco] engage in deep conversations, from the Coltrane-esque rubato of the opener through some exploratory alto-flute pieces to waves of bass clarinet and piano on a sea of drum fills.”
On August 12 Sinton released Steve Lacy’s Book of Practitioners Vol. 1 “H,” a deeply personal and exacting rendition of six Lacy etudes. Writing in a 4-star review in DownBeat, Ed Enright said, “This album is a heavy package that will appeal to serious players, deep listeners and fans of art created in absolute earnest.”
Josh Sinton’s Predicate Quartet with trumpeter Jonathan Finlayson, cellist Christopher Hoffman and drummer Tom Rainey released 4 freedoms on October 28. Befitting the momentum Sinton has generated this year, 4 freedoms is a dynamically charged, compositionally rich record which marks a new high point in his work.
