[ Brighton Alternative Jazz Festival 2018 – Terry Riley’s two sets ]

Posted On 6th October 2018 By grzech In All That Jazz /

Probably the greatest attraction of this year festival and unquestioned Mega Star is Terry Riley. Two out of Four only concerts in the UK are taking place here in Brighton in St.Luke’s church, one more in Bristol and one in Manchester. Needles to say it only took two days in April to get it Sold Out.

Given the massive success of this tour and such a huge demand the new tour had been just announced to take place in April 2019. Again just 4 nights are planned and tickets sale starts TODAY from 9 o’clock 😉 Hurry up then as experience did proof that they won’t stay for long either.

Minimalist pioneer Terry Riley was among the most revolutionary composers of the post-war era; famed for his introduction of repetition into Western music motifs, he also masterminded early experiments in tape loops and delay systems which left an indelible mark on the experimental music produced in his wake.  Together with artist like La Monte Young, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass, pioneered minimal music in the mid to late 1960s and as such is a part of the heritage which Minimalists created. Today this music is starting to gain completely new range of listeners and I dare to say that it becomes not only fashionable, but also better understood. I have a few theories to explain that but each of them is way to far to expand it into this write up. Another time then , and good luck at the doors.
