As many good things in life, this also came by accident. It is always a good thing to talk to other people honestly about what really touched us deeply. This way I heard the artist name for the very first time and dived into our modern Google oracle to find out more. Then, when Piotr’s debut CD arrived, my friend’s gift, I already had my opinion about the young guitarist constituted. More or less, as you know I am not mr.template man.
Listening to different tunes on the web one might find incredibly skilled instrumentalist, with vast interest in jazz, folk and contemporary music, purely not referring just to the guitar repertoire. So many influences could be traced there that just following them is a lovely trip inside your own sensitivity.
What hit me first however was that what came out of the disk. It was quite unexpected and different from stage clips I had a chance to listen to and watch. This second factor is meaning here as well as it gives you a real deal of knowledge about his finger work abilities. More you know about playing this instrument more you will understand.
What I came across before was showing clearly that young man done his lessons well. I found reminiscences of almost everything what defined XX century guitar score books. From Leo Brouwer to Roland Dyens, with digressions bringing to my mind Richard Leo Johnson’s recordings as well.
What I found on the disc was purely on the jazz side harvest. Don’t get me wrong it was all there somehow, but the names which came to my mind were on this occasion like Pat Metheny, Bill Frissel, Robert Fripp, to point just a few inspirations. What immediately took me over as a listener is a relaxing mood of this recording. Like with some recordings of all those gentlemen mentioned above it has this rare capability to put the spell over you completely, grab your hand and drag you out for the one of the most fascinating walks in your life. You are watching the trees like you had never seen them before and you discover with your mouth wide open that the sky is blue.
You rub your eyes with your fingers and cascades of the colours come down and make a soft pillow around your head. That is kind of charm that this music posses, to give you some basic indication. It is all well composed. I can not thing about that as like an open improvisation, as some of Piotr’s music I came across could be named. And it is executed so well that it deserves to be heard.
If you fell in love with Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny / Beyond The Missouri Sky, then that’s your poison. If you loved similarly deep Bill Frissell’s Trio sonic landscapes to illustrate Buster Keaton’s silent movies, then again here is your promised land. If you never heard any of them, but you love music anyway then do something to make it happen, as you are not going to be the same person after that. This is the pure music spirit and spelled in this recording and it will react with your vulnerability like with an iron with the magnet.
I can say no more but just congratulate young guitarists such the début and wish to hear more and more soon.
